My WorldCon 2016 schedule! Ditch Diggers Live Rides Again!

One week from today I’ll be boarding a plane alongside my luminous fiancée, Nikki, and the pair of us will be flying to Kansas City for The 74th WorldCon, taking place during MidAmeriCon II. I’ll be appearing on and even moderating a few panels, and (naturally) shilling the various books I have out right now. The big ticket item is, of course, the second annual Ditch Diggers Live! Thursday evening, 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., my intrepid co-host Mur Lafferty…

“Blisters” – A new episode of Ditch Diggers is live!

The Ditch Diggers are back, folks! A new episode of Mur Lafferty’s and my writing-as-a-job podcast has just released its 17th episode, titled “Blisters!” But first, if you missed it, you absolutely positively MUST check out our last episode of Ditch Diggers, episode 16, which was recorded live at Worldcon in Spokane and featured authors Kate Elliott, Linda Nagata, Aliette de Bodard, and Fonda Lee teaming up to take on Mur’s and my customized publishing industry version of a D&D-style…

Ditch Diggers Live from Worldcon is now…well…live! Special Guests! New theme song! The greatest RPG variant ever played!

SO MUCH AWESOME I DON’T EVEN HAVE TIME TO GREET YOU, FOLKS. No, seriously, the newest episode of the Ditch Diggers podcast is so jam-packed with amazing things I scarcely know where to begin. It was recorded two weeks ago LIVE at Worldcon, the 73rd World Science Fiction Convention in Spokane, Washington. Mur and I had a packed, absolutely fucking fabulous theater audience who were overwhelmingly into the show. It was widely tweeted about as one of many, many folks’…

Mikki Kendall is a freelancing Patrick Swayze in Road House on the newest episode of Ditch Diggers! (Plus brief Worldcon previews.)

Hey, folks. I’m a week late posting this here because I was getting ready to leave for Worldcon (which I attended, and which we’ll talk about later), but that’s cool because anyone who might’ve missed this one will get a second chance now. And you simply can’t miss this one, not if you’re serious about being a freelance writer. In my humble yet thoroughly informed opinion, there is no better example of a professional freelance writer in this here modern…

An Editing Cyborg and a Fearsome Foursome of SFF Authors: Special Guest Shenanigans at Ditch Diggers Live!

I’m currently at a fever pitch trying to get myself squared away to leave for Worldcon, but so much amazing is happening I had to make sure all of you were updated on it lest you miss the podcasting, convention, and freelance writing event of the year. Hyperbole? Nay. We all know the Hugo Awards are the hot SFF ticket this week. HOWEVER, Sasquan/Worldcon is also the site of the first ever Ditch Diggers Live, where Mur Lafferty and I…

We’re talkin’ all things comics industry with indie veteran Shawn Pryor on a new episode of Ditch Diggers!

Hey, folks. Campbell Award-winning author Mur Lafferty and I are back with a new episode of Ditch Diggers, *the* podcast about writing as a job. I’m stoked because this time around we welcomed guest host Shawn Pryor onto the show to talk about the comics industry, and We met Shawn during a private gaming convention at a castle in the woods of Ohio (no, really) and got to know him over a few rounds of the spaghetti western card game…

Fill These Rooms: My Complete Worldcon Schedule

In less than a month’s time I’m going to be a guest at the 73rd World Science Fiction Convention, a.k.a. Worldcon, taking place during Sasquan in Spokane, Washington (if those sound like two entirely different things to you, listen to the latest episode of Ditch Diggers for a primer on how Worldcon works). If you’re a writer and/or reader of science fiction and fantasy it’s kind of a big deal. The Hugo Awards, which are pretty much the Oscars of SFF, will be…

Late and Drunk to the Party: Kameron Hurley’s and Chuck Wendig’s Epic Two-Part Return to Ditch Diggers!

Hey, folks. I’m incredibly late posting about this, but when the first episode went live and for several days after the fact I was in the middle of the woods in Ohio with no internet access (it was bliss). Upon returning they were jackhammering the pavement in our complex non-stop, during which they hit a water main and killed all WiFi/cable, and I had plumbers coming in and out of the house and damaging our drywall and it was not…

When it’s NOT okay to suck, plus SFF titan Ken Liu! A new episode of Ditch Diggers is live!

We’re back, folks. Campbell Award-winning author Mur Lafferty and Knott’s Berry Farm Ghosts of the Old West 12-and-Under Short Story Contest-winning author Matt Wallace have returned for a new episode of Ditch Diggers, the podcast about writing as a job. This is, no bullshit, one of my favorite episodes we’ve done thus far. “It’s okay to suck” is the mantra on which Mur built her flagship podcast, I Should Be Writing, over the last decade. Now it’s time to talk…

Essay Hiatus, Collected Rants, & Brazilian Persevs

April was a noticeably poor month for essays ’round these parts. In fact, many of you have noted I didn’t write or publish ANY new essays in April. While I have been podcasting weekly with Mur Lafferty as the Ditch Diggers (and if you haven’t yet checked out the show, you really should. Kameron Hurley describes it as, “the Business of Writing podcast the industry seriously needed.” And we just did our 10th episode with best-selling author Gail Carriger. It’s dynamite),…
